The Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs) is coming into effect soon, and private registered providers (PRPs) need to prepare.
While most PRPs are by now aware of their formal obligations under STAIRs, many remain uncertain of what it will mean in practice when this new statutory framework comes into effect. The impact is expected to be highly significant. With PRPs likely to be inundated with requests once the Requirements go live, complexities around resourcing, consistent and compliant response, and the balance between transparency and risk need to be thoroughly considered and prepared for.
This session, delivered by Martin Brazier and Rachael Salter (both Senior Consultants at URM), will set out the practical steps PRPs can take now to get ready for these new Requirements.
Leveraging over 30 years of combined information management and data protection experience, Rachael and Martin will go well beyond explaining the essential requirements. The session will provide expert insights on what to expect when STAIRs comes into force, as well as actionable guidance on how to avoid overload and build a sustainable approach to meeting tenant demand from day one.
By attending, you will learn:
- What is STAIRs?
A brief overview of STAIRs, its main requirements, what it intends to achieve, why it has been introduced, key compliance deadlines, and who it does and doesn’t apply to. - What to expect when it comes into force?
How tenants are likely to react and practical challenges organisations will face when STAIRs goes live, such as high volume of queries, understanding and applying exemptions, tenants’ rights vs. operational burden, response timelines, enforcement and dealing with the Ombudsman, etc. - How to prepare?
The practical actions organisations should take to ensure they can cope with the day‑to‑day reality of STAIRs, not just meet compliance obligations on paper.
