Training and Awareness

Every organisation, regardless of size or sector, is required to comply with data protection and privacy legislation, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act (DPA).  In an effort to maintain compliance with these laws, many organisations find benefit in providing their staff with data protection training, therefore ensuring that every team member understands the importance of maintaining data protection, and their role in helping the organisation fulfil its data protection obligations and avoid a personal data breach.

URM is experienced and adept at developing training and awareness material to cover personal data protection requirements and policy compliance for the whole organisation and can offer online training and assessment via URM’s portal (Alurna).

For those with more in-depth training requirements, URM can provide the BCS Foundation Certificate in Data Protection training course which is aimed at providing your organisation’s data protection specialists with a sound grounding and practical interpretation of the key elements of UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the UK Data Protection Act 2018.  URM also offers a tailored training service for specific activities, such as developing ROPAs and DPIA processes.

Our experienced data protection practitioners can also provide purpose specific training development, tailored to your organisation’s industry, sector and unique needs.   This bespoke training is developed to address the specific data protection challenges and concerns faced by your organsiation.

URM’s training courses can be delivered either remotely or face to face, depending on your preference and requirements.

It’s one thing having the required technical knowledge, it’s another thing for a consultant to apply that knowledge to the context of our organisation. To use a sporting analogy, we view cyber and information security as a marathon not a sprint. I am not a believer in doing everything all at once. Our approach has been risk based and incremental, remediating our biggest risks first before moving on. I believe this approach is far more sustainable and effective. And URM’s consultants fully understand this and are very pragmatic and tailored in their guidance and advice. They know we are not implementing ISO 27001 purely for the certificate, but more as a framework for continual improvement, and at a pace where new systems and processes can be fully understood and absorbed by our team and be business as usual.
